Welcome

NextGen Water

The Water Innovation through Science and Technology Workshop (NextGen Water) brings together leading experts from academia, industry, consulting, government, and postgraduate students to tackle critical global water challenges through advanced science and technology. Hosted by Tecnológico de Monterrey, this three-day event will feature high-impact presentations, technical talks, panel discussions, poster sessions, and networking opportunities. Participants will gain insights from renowned institutions such as Tecnológico de Monterrey, the US Army AFC DEVCOM, and other global leaders in water science, technology, and innovation.

The workshop will explore innovative approaches to water management, highlighting both natural and engineered solutions to improve water quality, lower energy demands of water treatment, and improve resilience. Topics will include advanced pollutant removal techniques, water reuse, energy positive wastewater treatment, improved energy efficiencies for desalination, and the use of resilient energy strategies for water purification (small units/squad/individual). Discussions will cover microbiological treatment, chemical removal, desalination, and water quality sensing/monitoring. Participants will also explore circular economy models for water use and waste management, focusing on transforming industrial processes and construction materials into sustainable resources.

Other key themes include advancements in biological and chemical systems for contaminant removal, innovations in low-cost materials for heavy metal extraction, and the role of nanotechnology in improving wastewater treatment efficacy. The workshop will also include interdisciplinary monitoring techniques, aiming to improve the quality and safety of water bodies through comprehensive and multidimensional assessments. Additionally, strategies for flood mitigation and urban resilience will be highlighted, with a focus on scalable solutions that enhance community preparedness and infrastructure resilience.

Findings and discussions will be documented in detailed conference proceedings, serving as a vital resource for continued research, policy formation, and technological advancements in water management. By fostering collaboration across sectors, the workshop seeks to promote water security, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development practices that benefit communities worldwide.

Objectives and Background:

The Workshop aims to foster a collaborative platform that bridges academia, military organizations, industry, and government sectors to tackle urgent water challenges through innovative solutions. By bringing together experts from diverse fields, the workshop seeks to generate actionable insights and forge partnerships that address issues of water scarcity, pollution, and sustainable management, with a particular focus on resilience and preparedness.

This event promotes cross-disciplinary dialogue and facilitates partnerships that leverage expertise from various sectors. The workshop is grounded in the belief that collaborative, science-driven approaches are essential to developing effective and sustainable solutions for complex water issues. Building on established research networks, this event serves as both a continuation and an expansion of efforts to advance knowledge, catalyze innovation, and implement strategies for global water security.
